We are proud to offer comprehensive Marine Liability Insurance to active US Sailing coaches and instructors with advanced certifications who hold an active USCG license and hold one of the following US Sailing advanced certification levels. Professional mariners face real risks every time they are on the water. Boat accidents and other maritime incidents can happen without warning and may result in costly claims, third-party bodily injury or property damage, and even an investigation or suspension of your license, regardless of fault.
This policy is designed to help protect you, your USCG license, and your financial future from the day-to-day risks associated with your maritime work, sailing coaching, on land/in-the-classroom actions, and volunteer activities on the water. Coverage can respond to allegations of negligence arising from vessel incidents, accidents, or casualties that result in third-party bodily injury or property damage, including collisions or allisions with other boats, docks, and other stationary objects. Having this coverage in place is an important step in protecting your maritime career and financial future.

Requirements:
- Current, active member of US Sailing (US Sailing membership # needed to purchase)
- US Sailing Instructor certification of one of the following
- Current USCG License (USCG License # needed to purchase)
- Boat you are operating must be insured, including protection and indemnity (P&I) and hull coverage
- If providing coaching from a powerboat to students/sailors who are in a separate sailboat, both the coach boat and sailboat must be insured with protection and indemnity (P&I) coverage

- Occurrence Based Policy: This is an Occurrence Based Policy and under this type of policy coverage is afforded for covered claims where the reported incident occurs within the purchased certificate coverage period, regardless of when the claim is reported to the insurance company. Any incidents that occur before or after the purchased certificate coverage period are not covered.

- Tours & Cruises
- Dolphin & Whale Watching
- Transportation and deliveries of vessels – not exceeding 30% of your total professional services

Pricing Information
$2M License Protection & Defense
Basic Coverage: Includes license protection & defense costs of $2,000,000, $10,000 of fines and penalties coverage , 100,000 of Civil & Criminal Defense, and $250,000 of Civil legal liability.

- At the time of enrollment, each enrollee will be required to make a non-refundable payment in the amount of the first month’s premium (minimum earned premium). Administrative fees and minimum earned premium are non-refundable.
- Pricing includes a $40.00 program administration fee. Down payment refers to the monthly payment option. Your down payment includes one month's premium, administrative fees and a $5.00 monthly processing fee. Down payments will be processed immediately; monthly deductions, as shown above, will begin on the third of the month after the enrollment effective date.

- All options provide coverage for License Protection & Defense (USCG or regulatory hearings), Civil or Criminal Defense costs arising from a shipping casualty/vessel incident as well as Civil Legal Liability or damages which you may become liable to pay for bodily injury and/or property damage as a result of an incident. Choice and Premium options include loss of income coverage which provides monthly compensation in the event your license is suspended temporarily or permanently. Options are as follows:
- Basic: $2,000,000 for License Protection and Defense , $100,000 per occurrence limit for Civil and Criminal Legal Defense and $250,000 for Civil Legal Liability. Only $490/yr
- Choice: $2,000,000 for License Protection and Defense , $100,000 per occurrence limit for Civil and Criminal Legal Defense and $500,000 for Civil Legal Liability. $5,000 per month Loss of Income Coverage included. Only $605/yr
- Premium: $2,000,000 for License Protection and Defense , $250,000 per occurrence limit for Civil and Criminal Legal Defense and $1,000,000 for Civil Legal Liability. $5,000 per month Loss of Income Coverage included. Only $705/yr
- Optional coverage: Purchase additional coverage that permits US Sailing instructors to make their coverage portable (their limits of liability are extended to other professional services or work outside of sailing or vessel instruction. Only $300 additional premium/yr
Deductibles and Retentions
- $0 Deductible for License Protection and Defense, Foreign Jurisdiction Coverage ($5,000 Coverage Limit), Civil and Criminal Defense, Civil Legal Liability, and Loss of Income & Subsistence Allowance.
- $250 deductible each claim for loss of personal property ($5,000 coverage limit and $1,000 sublimit per item)
- 10% of combined total fines and penalties.
Payment Options
- Pay in full or choose monthly payments via credit card or electronic funds transfer (EFT). For those customers that select the monthly payment option, your credit card or EFT will be processed on the third of each month.

- Coverage is underwritten by Berkley Offshore Underwriting Managers on behalf of StarNet Insurance Company, whose member insurance companies are rated A+ (Superior), Financial Size Category XV by A.M. Best Company.
